Your AI can’t read the link. What next?
By ExportDat · Updated 23 October 2026
When an AI assistant cannot access a supported social post, video or podcast, ExportDat can retrieve available text, images and transcripts and pass them to a connected assistant through MCP. It does not bypass private accounts or guarantee that every link will work.
Why does pasting a URL sometimes fail?
A link identifies a page; it does not necessarily give an assistant the post, carousel slides or audio behind it. Access restrictions, sign-in requirements and unavailable media can prevent retrieval. If the assistant only has a title or preview, it may not have enough information to discuss the actual content.
Ask it what source content it retrieved. A confident answer is not evidence that it saw the post. If it cannot quote or attribute the relevant material, provide the source or use a connected extraction tool.
When can ExportDat help?
ExportDat is useful when you have an individual supported URL and want the original available content in an AI conversation, without manually collecting every caption, image or transcript.
- Instagram carousel: retrieve available slides, the caption and text within images.
- LinkedIn post: retrieve available post text, author details and accessible media.
- YouTube video: retrieve available descriptions, captions and transcripts.
- Podcast episode: retrieve episode information and available authorised publisher-linked transcripts.
Check the supported formats before relying on a result. Coverage varies, and content can be partial.
How do I paste a social link into my AI with ExportDat?
- Connect ExportDat to your compatible AI assistant when access is available.
- Copy the URL of the individual post, video or episode.
- Paste it into your normal AI chat with a request to use ExportDat.
- Review what was retrieved, then ask the AI to explain, compare or apply the ideas.
Use ExportDat to retrieve the available content from this link: [URL]. First tell me what text, images or transcript you could access and what is missing. Then help me understand the main ideas.
Replace [URL] with your link. This is an example prompt, not a guarantee of retrieval.
Does this work in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Perplexity?
Claude MCP has been tested locally. Hosted connections are being prepared, and ChatGPT is planned. Gemini and Perplexity connections have not been verified. A prompt alone does not install ExportDat: your assistant needs a working, supported connection.
What if the content still cannot be retrieved?
Check whether the URL is an individual supported post and whether the source is publicly accessible. ExportDat does not promise access to private, deleted or restricted content. If extraction is incomplete, share a caption, screenshot or transcript you are authorised to use, and ask your assistant to distinguish that material from anything it could not access.
Is ExportDat a chatbot or summariser?
It retrieves source content. Your AI assistant does the interpretation and discussion. This makes ExportDat useful for research, learning and brainstorming in the assistant you already use.
